Manuel Ramirez-Zea, MD, PhD

Dr. Manuel Ramìrez-Zea is the Contact principal investigator of Guatemala project, he is the Coordinator of the Research Center for the Prevention of Chronic Diseases (CIIPEC), Coordinator of the Laboratory of Physiology and Body Composition (LAFICC) and Coordinator of the Technical Unit of Nutrition and Chronic Diseases at Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP).

Dr. Manuel Ramìrez-Zea is the Contact principal investigator of Guatemala project, he is the Coordinator of the Research Center for the Prevention of Chronic Diseases (CIIPEC), Coordinator of the Laboratory of Physiology and Body Composition (LAFICC) and Coordinator of the Technical Unit of Nutrition and Chronic Diseases at Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP).

Dr Ramirez-Zea has participated as principal investigator and co-investigator on multiple local and multicenter research projects, particularly about epidemiology and interventions on primary and secondary prevention, related to the following areas: human body composition, exercise physiology and physical fitness; chronic diseases related to nutrition and lifestyle; energy metabolism and pattern of physical activity; nutrition on early life and human capital; micronutrient deficiency (iron, folic acid, zinc and B12) and nutritional supplementation; intervention models to promote healthy lifestyles; capacity building for the prevention and control of NCDs; mental health; use of mobile technology on health; aflatoxins and hepatic disease; metabolomics and chronic inflammatory processes.

Most recently he received an award for Excellence on professional trajectory and leadership in the field of Nutrition in Latin America and another for Latin American for 20 years of service at INCAP
